CDS Exam Notification 2013 Online Application Form and Exam Dates

Union Public Service Commission has issued a Combined Defence Services Examination notification for the engagement of Officers in the Defence Services. As per the notification there are around 509 vacant positions for officers in Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers Training Academy. UPSC conducts this exam twice in a year and this notification is for the second exam in this year. This exam will be conducted for both Men and Women candidates for the Non-Technical courses. In this section the eligibility criteria and other details are mentioned, candidates who are aspired to join Indian Defence Services may appear for this exam by applying in a prescribed format.
Vacancies Spread Over Various Academies:
  1. Indian Military Academy - 250
  2. Indian Naval Academy - 40
  3. Air Force Academy - 32
  4. Officers Training Academy (Men) - 175
  5. Officers Training Academy (Women) - 12
Other Information Related to CDS Exam:
Academic Qualification:
Candidates with any Degree obtained from a recognized University are eligible for the vacancies in IMA and OTA. For the Naval Academy and Air Force Academy, candidate must possess Degree in Engineering or a Degree with Physics and Mathematics studied up to 10+2 level is also eligible.

Age Limit and Restrictions:
Unmarried male candidates who are not born earlier than 2nd July 1990 and not later than 1st July 1995 are eligible to apply for vacancies in IMA and INA. Male candidates who are unmarried and born between 2nd July 1991 to 1st July 1995 can apply for Air Force Academy.

Married or Unmarried male candidates who are born between 2nd July 1989 to 1st July 1995 can apply for short service commission course in Officer’s Training Academy; women candidates, widows and divorced who don’t have any issues and not remarried but their age lies in the same limit cam apply for the Non-Technical SSC Women course in Officer’s Training Academy.

Process of Engaging as an Officer:
The selection process consists of several stages, at first the applications are shortlisted and eligible applications are selected. Then these applicants will be invited for CDS exam which will be held at the scheduled centers.

Candidates who are scoring good marks in this exam will be further invited for SSB interview. On completing this interview successfully you will be placed as officer in any of the Defence Services which you applied to join.

Exam Fees and Other Charges:
General and OBC category applicants are requested to pay Rs.200/- as application fee, this fee must the settled by means of Cash deposit done in any of the State Bank of India branch or you may pay it through online using any of the SBI or its associate banks card transaction or net banking services. All other candidates are exempted from paying application fee.

How to Apply:
UPSC only accepts applications through online; no other form of applications will be entertained. The official registration portal of UPSC "www.upsconline.nic.in" accepts the online application. Aspirants are advised to fill the application by following the instructions listed below.
  1. Log on to the above mentioned website and choose the Part-I registration for the CDS Exam.
  2. Fill the form with required information which opens in the new page.
  3. Verify all the given details in that form and submit it by clicking the 'I Agree' button.
  4. While submitting it the system generates a window containing the registration slip save it for reference.
  5. After that you need to pay the fee by choosing the online payment mode or by self cash deposit using the Challan.
  6. Once the payment process is over, you need to fill the Part-II registration.
  7. For filling the Part-II section you need to log on the site using the ID present in the registration slip and your Date of Birth.
  8. By entering these details you can log on to Part-II application, there you need to upload your payment reference number.
  9. Then you need to upload the scanned copies of your Photo and Signature. After uploading submit it.
  10. By submit these details the system generates a filled in application form containing your photo and signature.
  11. Save this for future reference and your application process is over.
