NDA Exam Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Exam Dates Notification

National Defence Academy and Naval Academy entrance exams will be conducted twice in a year by Union Public Service Commission. Every year the first exam will be takes place in the month of January and the second will be held at the month of August. Before three months from the exam UPSC issue notification regarding the exam and invites online application from eligible candidates. Followed by that applications will be shortlisted and eligible candidates will be invited for written exam on the scheduled dates.

Exam Pattern:
The exam will be conducted for 900 marks which consist of two papers. The first paper is the mathematics paper which has a weightage of 300 marks and the other paper is the General Ability paper; this paper carries a weight age of 600 marks. The General Ability Test questions consists of two parts A and B, Part A carries 200 marks and 400 marks for the remaining Part. All these questions will be asked in the form of objective type pattern and the exam will be conducted for 2 and a half hours.
Exam Syllabus:
Paper-I Mathematics:
The first paper will be fully packed with mathematical problems; these questions are asked in the form of multiple choice questions for 300 marks. This section consists of questions from, eight different mathematical subjects they are
  • Algebra
  • Matrices and Determinants
  • Trigonometry
  • Analytically Geometry of Two and Three Dimensions
  • Differential Calculus
  • Integral Calculus and Differential Equations
  • Vector Algebra
  • Statistics and Probability
Paper-II General Ability Test:
Since the General Ability Test questions consists of two parts A and B; part A consists of questions asked from English and it holds 200 marks. Part B consists of General Knowledge Questions which weighs 400 marks, this part is divided into six sections from A to F and each sections carries question from different discipline.
  • Part A - English (200 Marks)
  • Part B - General Knowledge (400 Marks)
    1. Section A - Physics (100 Marks)
    2. Section B - Chemistry (60 Marks)
    3. Section C - General Science (40 Marks)
    4. Section D - History, Freedom Movement etc (80 Marks)
    5. Section E - Geography (80 Marks)
    6. Section F - Current Events (40 Marks)

Exam Dates:
As mentioned above every year the Phase-I exam takes place in January and the Phase-II in August. For the year 2013 the first exam conducted on 21st of January 2013 and the upcoming exam will be conducted on 11th of August 2013.
